Frequently asked questions
Questions, answered plainly
Everything people usually ask before working with a mutual fund distributor — including the awkward ones about how we get paid and what happens when markets fall.

About Advaya Wealth
Who we are and what we are registered to do.
Is Advaya Wealth a bank or a mutual fund company?
Neither. We are a mutual fund distributor registered with AMFI (ARN 360018). We help you pick funds and get invested. The funds themselves are run by fund houses, and your money is held with them, not with us.
Who is behind Advaya Wealth?
Kinjal Madhani, who spent over ten years working in banks — including a lot of work with Indians living abroad — before starting Advaya Wealth in 2026.
Where are you based?
Mumbai and Ahmedabad. That said, everything can be done remotely, and plenty of our clients have never met us in person.
Costs
Fees and commissions
How this is paid for, stated directly.
What does this cost me?
There is nothing to pay us. Every mutual fund scheme has its own charges built into it, and those are the same whether you come through us or go direct to the fund house. We are paid by the fund houses.
Does Advaya Wealth ever hold my money?
No, never. Your money goes straight from your bank account to the fund house. We arrange the investment and look after it, but it never sits with us. Everything is held in your own name.
Is my money safe on the platform?
Your investments are held with the fund houses themselves, under the rules that apply to them. FundzBazar is the website you log into to see and manage them — it does not hold your money.
Starting out
Getting started
What the first few weeks actually involve.
Is there a minimum amount to invest?
No. Most fund houses let you start a monthly SIP from ₹500, and one-off amounts can be whatever suits you. You also do not need a certain amount invested before we will talk to you.
How long does the whole process take?
The review itself is a single conversation. If you decide to go ahead, we can often have you set up and invested in as quick as 24 hours.
What if I am already invested through someone else?
That is very common and completely fine. We will look at what you hold and show you what we would do differently, and why. There is no pressure to move at all.
What if I change my mind partway through?
You can stop at any point before investing, and you will owe nothing. Once you are invested, the investment is yours and you can take the money out under the fund's own rules — see the question below on getting your money back.
Can everything be done remotely?
Yes. The paperwork, the account setup and every transaction can be done online. That is how most of our clients living abroad work with us, and it works just as well in India.
Living with it
Once you are invested
Reporting, access to your money, and what happens in a downturn.
Can I access my money if I need it urgently?
Usually the money reaches your bank in two to three working days. Two things to know. Tax-saving funds (ELSS) are locked for three years by law — each monthly instalment separately — and cannot be taken out early for any reason. And some funds charge a small fee if you withdraw within the first year. We will tell you which of these apply before you put money in.
What happens if markets fall after I invest?
Markets falling is a normal part of investing and nobody can prevent it. Our job is to have set things up so that a fall does not derail you, and to be on the phone when it happens. We do not pretend to know what markets will do next — and you should be careful of anyone who says they do.
How often does the portfolio change?
Rarely, and that is on purpose. We review once a year and only make changes when the mix has drifted past limits you agreed to in advance — not because of the news. A marriage, a baby or a job change is a good reason to look again.
What reporting do I get?
A statement every three months, a yearly review showing what your money has actually earned against what you were aiming for, and your own login where you can check everything whenever you like.
Why do I receive emails from FundzBazar or Prudent?
Because they run the platform your investments sit on. We are the people you talk to; FundzBazar sends you the confirmations and statements directly. Getting them is a good sign — it means your records come straight from the source rather than through us.
NRI and tax
NRI investing and taxation
Cross-border questions, and the tax treatment of what you hold.
Can I invest if I live outside India?
Yes, though it depends where you live. Investing from NRE and NRO accounts, and the tax questions that come with living abroad, are a big part of what we do. One thing to know early: several Indian fund houses will not accept investors living in the USA or Canada because of American reporting rules. Tell us where you are and we will check what is open to you.
I live in the USA or Canada. Can I still invest?
Yes, you can. American reporting rules mean not every Indian fund house accepts investors based in the USA and Canada, so the choice of funds is smaller than it would be elsewhere. Several good fund houses do accept you, some with a little extra paperwork.
Are my NRI investments repatriable?
It depends which account you invest from. Money invested from an NRE account can generally be sent back abroad. Money invested from an NRO account can too, but only up to a yearly limit and with extra paperwork. That is why the account you start from matters as much as the fund you pick.
Do you provide tax advice?
We help you invest in a way that keeps your tax bill sensible — using the deductions you are entitled to, and timing withdrawals well. We are not chartered accountants, so for your actual tax return and any detailed tax question we work alongside a qualified CA.
How are mutual fund gains taxed?
For equity funds held more than a year, the first ₹1.25 lakh of profit in a financial year is tax-free, and anything above that is taxed at 12.5%. Sell within a year and the profit is taxed at a higher rate. Debt funds work differently. These rules change from time to time, so we will confirm what applies to you when it matters.
Question not answered here?
Ask it directly. We would rather answer a hard question now than have you find out later.
